Information You Submit
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is submitted to the outside provider operating that result service. Our servers do not retain a copy of those searches. If you contact us, we receive the contents of your message and use them only to respond.
Automatically Collected Data
Like most hosted sites, our service providers create routine logs that may include an IP address, browser information, viewed pages, and timestamps. We use aggregated information to maintain the reference and understand page use. Cookies or similar technology may support basic analytics and, where relevant, advertising measurement.
How Information Is Used
Information is used to operate the reference, address technical problems, measure aggregate traffic, and improve its pages. We do not sell visitor lists or create profiles of individual readers.
External Services
Durham and North Carolina record portals, library collections, archives, and sponsored search tools are outside services. Their own policies apply to information submitted there, including information submitted through sponsored results.
Service Providers and Disclosure
Hosting and support providers process logs for the site. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above. We disclose information only when valid legal process requires disclosure.
Safeguards
The reference uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the operating purposes described here. Because there are no user accounts, the site does not hold a visitor password or account profile.
Visitors Under 18
This reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent us information, contact us so it can be deleted.
Your Information Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data held by a website. Because this reference keeps very little, we can check the contact mailbox and available logs when you use the Contact page. Public records held by North Carolina, Durham County, or Durham offices are outside our control. North Carolina’s Public Records Act, Chapter 132, governs access to many government records, while correction or suppression requests must go to the office that holds the record.
Policy Changes
We will post revisions to this policy here. Continued use after a posted change means that you accept the revised policy.
